Environmental Education Fund Publications

"Habitats for Learning" is a comprehensive program to encourage the use and development of outdoor classrooms, or school land labs. The program includes a motivational video, a how-to guide for using and developing land labs, and a directory of land labs in Ohio. The program was developed by the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR), the Environmental Education Council of Ohio (EECO), the Natural Resources Conservation Service, the Ohio Department of Education, the Ohio Federation of Soil and Water Conservation Districts, and The Ohio State University Extension, with funding from the Ohio Environmental Education Fund. These materials and workshops are available through Ohio EPA, ODNR, and local collaborators.

Fostering a Sense of Wonder During the Early Childhood Years (1993; 208 pages, downloadable [PDF]) is a curriculum based on the understanding that creating a sense of wonder and appreciation for the natural world is important to the development of young children. The curriculum includes ideas on what early childhood environmental education programs should encompass; practical ideas on how to infuse environmental education into all aspects of the early childhood curriculum; special considerations in developing and implementing early childhood environmental education programs; and tools for evaluating such programs. The developer of the curriculum is Dr. Ruth Wilson, retired from the Department of Special Education, Bowling Green State University, Bowling Green, OH.

 

"Assess, Don't Guess - An Ohio Outreach and Education Resource Guide" is a  handbook for professionals serving socioeconomically disadvantaged communities, including chapters on environmental and pollution impacts on human health, environmental regulatory agencies, prioritization of environmental risks, ensuring participation for at-risk communities, and resolving environmental disputes. "Life at the Water's Edge - Living in Harmony with Your Backyard Stream" offers six simple, inexpensive ways for streambank homeowners and neighbors to preserve and improve the health of local streams.
