Public Meeting to Discuss American Landfill Disposal Well Draft Permit

Information Session and Public Hearing Scheduled Nov. 29

Ohio EPA will hold a public meeting on Nov. 29, 2022, to discuss a draft permit to drill a Class I non-hazardous injection disposal well at the American Landfill, Inc. facility in Stark County.

 

An information session will begin at 6 p.m. on Nov. 29 at the Indian Run Christian Church, 8368 Church Street, SE, East Canton, immediately followed by a hearing to accept public comments on the draft permit to drill. 

 

The draft permit proposes to allow American Landfill, Inc. to construct a Class I non-hazardous waste injection well on the company’s Waynesburg landfill property. This draft permit to drill would not authorize American Landfill to dispose of wastewater in the well, which would require an additional application for a Class I permit to operate from Ohio EPA.

All comments received at the hearing or by the close of business on Dec. 13 will be considered by Ohio EPA before a final action is taken on this proposal. The Ohio Environmental Protection Agency was created in 1972 to consolidate efforts to protect and improve air quality, water quality and waste management in Ohio. Since then, air pollutants dropped by as much as 90 percent; large rivers meeting standards improved from 21 percent to 89 percent; and hundreds of polluting, open dumps were replaced with engineered landfills and an increased emphasis on waste reduction and recycling.
