Ohio EPA Meeting Set for Cuyahoga River Fish Consumption

Information Session Scheduled Sept. 27, 2018

Ohio EPA will hold a public meeting to discuss the proposed removal of beneficial use impairments for fish consumption within the Cuyahoga River Area of Concern.

Beneficial Use Impairments identify specific problems that can prevent a waterbody from meeting its full water quality potential. An information session will begin at 6 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 27, 2018, at the Watershed Stewardship Center, 2277 West Ridgewood Dr., Parma.

Ohio EPA will accept written comments through Oct. 4, 2018. Anyone may submit comments or request to be on the mailing list for information. Comments can be mailed to: Ohio EPA-DSW, Northeast District Office, Attn: Chad Ferguson, 2110 East Aurora Rd., Twinsburg, Ohio 44087 or email epa.dswcomments@epa.ohio.gov.

The Ohio Environmental Protection Agency was created in 1972 to consolidate efforts to protect and improve air quality, water quality and waste management in Ohio. Since then, air pollutants dropped by as much as 90 percent; large rivers meeting standards improved from 21 percent to 89 percent; and hundreds of polluting, open dumps were replaced with engineered landfills and an increased emphasis on waste reduction and recycling.
