Ohio EPA Hosting Meeting about PCS Nitrogen Air Permit

Ohio EPA has issued a draft air permit for the planned modification of the PCS Nitrogen plant in Lima. Ohio EPA will hold a public information session and hearing on Thursday, Jan. 9, 2014, to explain the draft permit and accept public comments. The meeting is at 6:30 p.m. in Lima City Council Chambers, 50 Town Square, Lima.

If approved, the permit would allow the company to modify existing plant operations to increase the facility’s production capacity for ammonia and urea.

PCS Nitrogen is a fertilizer manufacturing located at 2200 Fort Amanda Road, Lima.

Ohio EPA will accept written comments on the draft permit through Jan. 15, 2014. Ohio EPA will take all public comments into consideration before deciding whether to issue or deny the permit.

To comment or receive information on the draft air permit, write to Jeff Skebba, Division of Air Pollution Control, Ohio EPA Northwest District Office, 347 North Dunbridge Road, Bowling Green, OH 43402. The draft permit is available online.

The Ohio Environmental Protection Agency was created in 1972 to consolidate efforts to protect and improve air quality, water quality and waste management in Ohio. Since then, air pollutants dropped by as much as 90 percent; large rivers meeting standards improved from 21 percent to 89 percent; and hundreds of polluting, open dumps were replaced with engineered landfills and an increased emphasis on waste reduction and recycling.
