Ohio EPA Hosting Meeting about BP-Husky Air Permit

Ohio EPA has issued a draft air permit for BP-Husky’s Toledo Feed Optimization construction project. Ohio EPA and Toledo Division of Environmental Services will hold a public information session and hearing on Wednesday, June 5, 2013, to explain the draft permit modification and accept public comments. The meeting is at 6:30 p.m. at the Lake Erie Center, 6200 Bayshore Road, Oregon.

If approved, the permit would allow the company to retool to process heavy crude oils. The project will neither increase the refinery’s overall crude capacity nor the amount of heavy sour crudes relative to what is currently processed at the refinery.

The project would not significantly increase emissions of any conventional pollutant when considered with other increases and decreases at the facility.

Ohio EPA and TDES will accept written comments on the draft permit through June 10, 2013. Ohio EPA will take all public comments into consideration before deciding whether to issue or deny the permit.

To comment or receive information on the draft air permit, write to Peter Park, Toledo Division of Environmental Services, 348 South Erie St., Toledo, OH 43602, or fax comments to Peter Park at (419) 936-3959. The application and other related materials are available for review at TDES by calling (419) 936-3015. The application and draft permit are available online and at the Oregon Branch of the Toledo-Lucas County Public Library.

The Ohio Environmental Protection Agency was created in 1972 to consolidate efforts to protect and improve air quality, water quality and waste management in Ohio. In the past 40 years, air pollutants dropped by as much as 90 percent; large rivers meeting standards improved from 21 percent to 89 percent; and hundreds of polluting, open dumps were replaced with engineered landfills and an increased emphasis on waste reduction and recycling. Ohio EPA….40 years and moving forward.
