After March 23, our district offices and Central Office will be temporarily closed and will have increasingly limited ability to receive deliveries, plans, etc. All entities are encouraged to submit plans, permit applications, etc., electronically where there are existing avenues to do so, such as the eBusiness Center (eBiz). Please refer to the list of available services on the main eBiz webpage. We encourage you to make use of all that apply, even if you have not used eBiz in the past. Plans under 25 MB can be emailed. For large plans over 25 MB, entities should work with the reviewer/division to upload via LiquidFiles. Directions for submitting docs via LiquidFiles is available on YouTube. We apologize for the inconvenience and thank you in advance for your understanding. If you wish to send hard copies of documents to any of Ohio EPA’s district offices, the best method to ensure we receive these documents is to send them via U.S. Mail. Since all offices are closed, deliveries outside of U.S. Mail (FedEx, UPS) will likely be returned because the offices are closed and deliveries cannot be made.


Ohio EPA Considering Erie County Landfill Expansion Request

Ohio EPA will hold a public information session and hearing at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 14, 2013, to accept comments on a proposed vertical expansion of the Erie County Landfill near Milan. The meeting will take place at Huron City Council Chambers, 417 Main St.

The draft permit-to-install would allow the landfill to increase capacity by 1.2 million cubic yards. If the permit is approved, the landfill would have steeper exterior slopes, but would not expand its 60.6-acre footprint. The landfill is located at 10102 Hoover Road, Milan.

The landfill’s current permit is for 6.8 million cubic yards, or another 30.5 years based on current average waste receipts. If operating at the maximum allowed 800 tons of waste per day, the landfill currently has approximately 18.5 years of capacity remaining.

If approved, the vertical expansion would bring total capacity to 8.07 million cubic yards, or 36 years based on current waste receipts.

During the information session, Ohio EPA representatives will present details about the proposed project. During the hearing, which follows the information session, the public can submit comments and questions for the record regarding the draft permit.

Ohio EPA will accept written comments on the draft permit through Feb. 21, 2013.
