June 21, 2019 ‘Celebrating Comeback of the Burning River’ Documentary Wins Emmy Award
The National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences Lower Great Lakes Chapter announced this week the awarding of an Emmy for an Ohio EPA documentary chronicling the recovery of the Cuyahoga River. The 13-minute video, “Celebrating the Comeback of the Burning River,” revisits the June 22, 1969, river fire that gained national attention. The creation of federal and state clean air and water regulations (and agencies) soon followed, marking the beginning of remarkable environmental restorations throughout the country, including those improvements now evident in the Cuyahoga River.
June 17, 2019 Akron, Ohio State Researchers Awarded Lake Erie Protection Grants to Study Algae and Nutrient Reduction
(CLEVELAND) – The Ohio Lake Erie Commission has awarded two grants totaling nearly $100,000 to fund research into nutrient reduction and algae impacts on Lake Erie. Funding for the awards comes from donations and proceeds from the sale of Lake Erie Ohio license plates.
June 4, 2019 $15 million in Volkswagen settlement grants available in 26 counties
Ohio EPA is announcing that $15 million in Volkswagen settlement grants is now available to assist with replacing or repowering aging diesel fleet vehicles in 26 priority counties where emission reductions are most needed in order to comply with federal ozone standards. Eligible applicants include public and private fleet owners of school and transit buses, medium and heavy-duty trucks, switcher locomotives, tugboats, ferries, and cargo handling equipment in airports and ports.

COLUMBUS, OH (May 14, 2019) – The Ohio Environmental Protection Agency (Ohio EPA), solid waste management districts (SWMDs), material recovery facilities (MRFs), haulers, Ohio communities and The Recycling Partnership (The Partnership) are coming together to tackle the issue of non-recyclable trash in recycling by investing in education and outreach in pilot areas around the state. Six grants have been awarded to a strategically and geographically diverse group of communities that represent four different major MRFsheds within Ohio to work with The Partnership to create the best model for replicable success statewide
