August 20, 2020 Ohio EPA Selects 2020 Environmental Scholarship Winners
Eleven environmental science and engineering students have been awarded scholarships through Ohio EPA’s Environmental Education Fund to study at Ohio colleges and universities. Students were selected based on academic performance, as well as research, employment/internships, leadership, letters of recommendation from education or environmental professionals, and other specified criteria.

Communities seeking funding assistance for wastewater infrastructure projects for program year 2021 are encouraged to apply for assistance under the Water Pollution Control Loan Fund (WPCLF). Projects may be nominated by following the instructions and forms available on Ohio EPA’s website. Nominations must be received by Aug. 31, 2020.

July 17, 2020 State Works With U.S. EPA and Ohio WRC at OSU to Test Wastewater Treatment Plants for COVID-19
The Ohio Department of Health (ODH) and Ohio EPA are coordinating with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency in Cincinnati and the Ohio Water Resources Center (Ohio WRC) at The Ohio State University on a monitoring study that includes sampling from several of Ohio’s municipal sewage and wastewater treatment systems to determine the presence of coronavirus ribonucleic acid (RNA) fragments.

June 22, 2020 Ohio EPA Awards $795,000 in Grants to 46 Local Agencies for Mosquito Control
Forty-five local health departments and one sanitary district are sharing $795,070 in grant funding from Ohio EPA for mosquito control activities, including more than $139,000 to remove scrap tires, which can become breeding grounds for mosquito larvae. The funding will help mitigate the spread of mosquito-borne viruses such as Zika, West Nile and La Cross Encephalitis.

Ohio EPA congratulates the winners of the Governor’s Awards for Excellence in Environmental Protection Research. Twenty-six seventh through 12th grade students were selected as part of State Science Day. Judging was conducted virtually over several days in May and June.
