Hazardous Waste Identification Numbers:  What You Need to Know - Free OCAPP Webinar Wednesday July 24, 2013 10:00 a.m.-11:00 a.m. EST

Hosted by Ohio EPA's Office of Compliance Assistance and Pollution Prevention (OCAPP). This webinar will discuss the importance of hazardous waste ID numbers, how to obtain one, completing form 9020, basic liability for waste, and issues involving changes (closure, transfer of ownership, generator status, etc.). Presenter: Ruthanne Flottman, Environmental Specialist, Division of Materials and Waste Management (DMWM), Columbus, OH. We will be using the audio broadcast feature in WebEx to improve the sound quality of the webinar. You will need speakers on your computer or headphones connected to your computer to hear the audio portion of the webinar. Workshop-GreenScreen™Training September 2013, IN, and December 2013, Boston, MA. Hosted by U.S. EPA Region 5 Great Lakes Restoration Initiative partners. The GreenScreen™ for Safer Chemicals is a comparative chemical hazard screening method developed by Clean Production Action to encourage the use of greener and safer chemicals. This method is used by Washington State Department of Ecology and Hewlett-Packard to evaluate the hazards associated with specific chemicals and identify safer alternatives. Webinars hosted/presented by Ohio EPA’s Office of Compliance Assistance and Pollution Prevention (OCAPP)

For small businesses (under 100 employees) that must comply with federal clean air regulations, the Clean Air Resource Center (CARC) at the Ohio Air Quality Development Authority (OAQDA) offers tax incentives and lower-cost financing assistance. This webinar will review the criteria businesses must meet to qualify for CARC financing assistance and the benefit to the business. Businesses that use CARC funding may finance the purchase and installation of air quality equipment and facilities. Frequent users of the CARC program include auto body shops and dry cleaners. Webinar presenter: Todd Nein, Interim Executive Director, Ohio Air Quality Development Authority.

This webinar is hosted by Ohio EPA for the oil and gas industry on the regulatory processes, planning, and response for inadvertent return events that may occur during horizontal directional drilling activities related to pipeline construction. The goal of the webinar is to help you and your contractors better understand the regulations, Ohio EPA’s role, and recommended best management practices in preventing and responding to an inadvertent return at your operations. Webinar topics will include: Regulatory authority of Ohio EPA for inadvertent returns; Permitting for impacts to “waters of the state”; A discussion of open cut vs. horizontal directional drilling for wetland and stream crossings; Ohio EPA emergency response actions; and Enforcement activities following inadvertent returns.

If your business generates used oil, it is important that you understand and comply with Ohio EPA’s used oil rules. This webinar will cover how to properly manage self-generated used oil. We will discuss what can be managed as a used oil, used oil container and tank management, responding to releases, shipping used oil off-site, managing used oil filters, and burning used oil in a space heater.

Ohio’s universal waste rules are a subset of Ohio’s hazardous waste rules intended to promote recycling as well as proper disposal by easing certain regulatory requirements. This webinar will cover how to properly manage self-generated fluorescent lights, used batteries, and mercury-containing devices under Ohio’s universal waste rules.

Environmental regulations are complex and determining if your business needs an air pollution permit can be confusing. If you are wondering whether your business needs an air permit, this webinar is for you. We will cover the basic steps in evaluating whether your equipment and operations need an air permit, if it is exempt, and how to get a permit if you need one. We will cover the types of permits available, including general permits, permit-by-rule options, and permits-to-install-and-operate (PTIO). Finally, we will provide tips on completing permit applications, working with your district offices, and where to get additional help.

Seventh Compliance Assistance Conference

Ohio EPA will host the Seventh Compliance Assistance Conference- May 21 & 22, 2013 Columbus, OH. Organizations will gain valuable information and contacts to help with environmental compliance responsibilities. Some of the topics include: air permitting basics and reporting; preparing for an Ohio EPA inspection; hazardous waste requirements overview; used oil and SPCC requirements; reporting when things go wrong; solid waste basics; wastewater discharge permits, new source review and Title V permitting, Ohio EPA’s enforcement process, and storm water and wetland requirements for construction. Sixth Compliance Assistance Conference: Road to Success

November 7-8, 2011

Columbus, Ohio

Baseline Sustainability Training for Ohio Businesses/Organizations

Sustainability training from the Office of Compliance Assistance & Pollution Prevention (OCAPP) that provides a review of the basic concepts of sustainability and how pollution prevention is an integral part of sustainable practices. This training is useful for businesses, other organizations and Ohio EPA staff who are interested in learning the basic concepts of sustainability.

Pollution Prevention through Water Use Reduction

Online training to promote water conservation and economic savings for Ohio businesses. This training is provided by the Office of Compliance Assistance & Pollution Prevention. The objective is to provide numerous water use reduction opportunities for Ohio manufacturers, that can lower production costs and provide benefits to Ohio’s environment.

Utilizing Biobased Products to Enhance Economic and Environmental Performance

On-line training outlining the outstanding environmental and economic benefits from utilizing renewable biobased products. This training will emphasize the opportunities for both material substitution and possible new product designs/formulations for biobased feed stocks.

Introduction to Mercury Issues

This on-line training provides an introduction to mercury issues for the general public and businesses. It is meant to provide an introduction to the various forms of mercury and their health effects, identify where mercury is found, identify steps to take to reduce mercury use and provide some basic resources to further explore mercury issues.

EPA Energy Efficiency Workshop

Training to assist facility managers and our staff identify energy efficiency opportunies in manufacturing facilities. The training was provided by the Ohio Department of Development, Office of Energy Efficiency.

Laboratory Pollution Prevention Training
