Division of Surface Water Geographic Information Systems

A Geographic Information System (GIS) is a computer-based tool for mapping and analyzing features in the environment. GIS staff in the Division of Surface Water (DSW) provide geo-referenced data, geographical analysis and map products to the division. GIS staff support a wide range of activities including water quality modeling, watershed planning, and wetlands permitting and mitigation.

DSW distributes GIS data it develops and maintains. DSW does not distribute GIS data published by other organizations. The following is a list of GIS data frequently requested of, but not distributed by, Ohio EPA. The list includes links to sites where the data can be obtained, or where more information is available.

Additional GIS data is available from various local, state and federal entities. A good starting place to find data is the Ohio Metadata Explorer. The Ohio Metadata Explorer is a state-wide index of GIS data, providing product details, contact information and in some cases download instructions.

A wealth of GIS data is available from the Ohio Department of Natural Resources Geographic Information Management System (GIMS) Program. The GIMS Website is a portal for the download of administrative, geologic, soil, topographic, and many other types of data.
