Division of Air Pollution Control Certified Technician Training

Certified Technician Classes

What classes are required to become an Ohio EPA certified technician?

OHIO-1is required for certification. OHIO-1 Advantage is a 40-hour course that includes Ohio E-Check program curriculum. Course instructors are Ohio EPA approved OHIO-1 trainers.  Repair technicians must also have current ASE A6 and A8 certifications.

If repair technicians already have EDGE certification, but have not taken OHIO-1, then they must also take both an OBD II and NOx update course.  These courses are designed to provide technicians with information about how E-Check works so they can integrate their repairs with the E-Check program. These update courses will not focus on the repair of the vehicles themselves.  As with the Ohio-1 course, repair technicians must also have current ASE A6 and A8 certifications.

Mode-6 is not required to become an Ohio E-Check certified repair technican. However, the information provided during the class can provide upper-level auto repair technicians with additional information to prepare vehicles for the Ohio scan tool emissions test.  For information about Mode-6, please click here..

Where are the different classes offered?

All courses for the Ohio E-Check program will now be held at the AST Training facility at 1994 Pearl Rd. Brunswick, OH, 44212.  All of the approved trainers may teach in this facility.
