Ohio EPA Assists City of Akron with Sewer Improvements
Ohio EPA is providing six loans to the City of Akron for continued upgrades to the city’s sewer system. The loans, totaling more than $51 million, will help the city achieve its goal of dramatically reducing the number of combined sewer overflows (CSOs) that release to the local waterways during periods of heavy precipitation.

Ohio EPA Announces First Transaction Via Ohio Materials Marketplace
Ohio EPA Director Craig W. Butler today announced the first transaction through a new online service whereby Ohio businesses, not-for-profits and government organizations can advertise and acquire potentially useful products and materials that might otherwise be destined for disposal in landfills. Columbus based Weisenbach Recycled Products posted the availability of 4.68 tons of polypropylene (plastic bottle caps) to the Ohio Materials Marketplace (OMM) in May. Representatives from Heath based Polymer Technologies Inc. saw the posting and identified the material as useful for producing polypropylene pellets, which can then be sold on the open market for the manufacture of common household products. Ohio EPA staff facilitated the connection between the two companies.

Ohio EPA Assists Northeast Ohio Regional Sewer District With Kingsbury Run Sewer Improvements
Ohio EPA is providing a $4,774,375 loan to the Northeast Ohio Regional Sewer District (NEORSD) to fund upgrades to the Kingsbury Run sewer collection system. Kingsbury Run serves as a drainage outlet for the central portion of Cleveland, east of the Cuyahoga River, and the west end of Shaker Heights.

Ohio EPA is providing a $532,464 loan to the village of Apple Creek to extend sanitary sewers to Waynedale High School on Dover Road. The loan, along with a grant from the Ohio Public Works Commission, will cover the entire cost of the project.
