Fifteen Northeast Ohio Counties Receive Funding from Ohio EPA to Help Homeowners with Failing Home Septic Systems
Ohio EPA is offering communities financial assistance through the Water Pollution Control Loan Fund (WPCLF) to help low- to moderate-income homeowners repair and replace failing home sewage treatment systems (HSTS). It is estimated that about 31 percent of all household sewage treatment systems throughout Ohio are experiencing some degree of failure due to poor maintenance or age. When failing systems discharge untreated sewage, potential exposure to harmful bacteria and pathogens can cause public health concerns and threaten the environment.

Northern Ohio Organizations Receive Ohio EPA Education Grants
Three northern Ohio organizations are receiving Ohio EPA Environmental Education mini grants for diverse projects focused on storm water control, butterfly habitat and the benefits of electric automobiles. Eight mini grants are being awarded statewide for a total of $27,433.

This announcement is a final environmental signoff for a project that will restore a free-flowing Cuyahoga River between Brecksville and Cleveland.

ARCO Site Cleanup Complete
The pile of more than 300,000 cubic yards of illegally disposed construction and demolition debris waste at the ARCO Recycling site has been removed following an eight-month cleanup. The more than $8.8 million cleanup was paid for by Ohio EPA and done in cooperation with the Cuyahoga County Board of Health, the city of East Cleveland, the Cleveland Division of Air Quality and the Cuyahoga County Executive’s Office.
